Barra do Cunhaú
The first impression you get, when you arrive in Barra do Cunhaú, is to be in front of an enormous sweet water lake in stead of the Atlantic Ocean. The river, protected against the winds, is quit and almost without any waves. The two rivers, the Curimataú and the Catu, wind themselves along 5 kilometers of dunes and beaches, with thousands of coconut trees in the background. Here you'll find one of the precious ecological wonders of this region: vast mangrove woods, being the breeding ground of oysters, crabs and other salt water species.
You can make boat trips with two possible destinations: the mangrove and “the other side”, a deserted sand beach with on one side the river and on the other side the ocean and on the reefs you can fish with a line or a rot. Barra do Cunhaú was discovered by the Kite-surfers, because according to them, “here you find the best wind for Kite-surfing”, winds that attract Kite-surfers from all over Brazil, even from all over the world. Some even risk themselves at open sea, where the waves can be as high as one meter and a half.
Barra do Cunhaú was not yet discovered as one of the destinations of international tourism, but this is changing rapidly, due to the fabulous sand beaches and the almost untouched nature, so maybe that we will meet you there soon as well.
