Saugerties Lighthouse
The first lighthouse at the mouth of the Esopus Creek at Saugerties was built in 1838. It was constructed to guide ships away from nearby shallows and into the Esopus Creek when Saugerties was a major port with daily commercial and passenger transportation. The present lighthouse was built in 1869 and is open weekends and holidays, Memorial Day through Columbus Day, 2pm to 5pm.
